Soccer State Finals (Part 1 - AAA Class Maryland)

Last Thursday there weren't any games in Pennsylvania so I decided to search for soccer games in a nearby state. I found two games scheduled at Loyola University's Ridley Athletic Complex in Baltimore, MD: The 2014 Class 3A Maryland Soccer State Finals (Boys and Girls). So I drove to Baltimore and I enjoyed two awesome games.

The first game was the boys' final: River Hill Hawks 2-0 Huntingtown  Hurricanes.

River Hill scored quickly but Huntingtown kept playing strong. Both teams played a great game and they were well matched. I found many good players there. I think some of them could easily play in college. Huntingtown tried to tie the game but River Hill scored the second goal with a penalty kick and they became the 2014 Boys AAA Class State Champions.

After that I watched the girls' final. It started raining but I am glad I was there because it was another awesome soccer game.

River Hill scored two goals in the first 6 minutes. At first it looked like an easy game for them but then the Linganore Lancers began closing the gap with a good goal. River Hill defended the result and Linganore tried to score another goal. Lancers had good chances to tie, including a penalty kick, but the goalie did her job and finally River Hill Hawks won the title:  2014 Girls AAA Class State Champions.

So River Hill High School is the double 2014 State Champion in Maryland. Congratulations to them (boys and girls) and congratulations to Linganore girls and Huntingtown boys for their great tournaments and finals. You all played great!

PIAA Soccer Semifinals at Exeter Twp Senior HS

I was so excited to watch two semifinals yesterday at Exeter Twp Senior High School, Reading, PA:
  • 2014 PIAA AA Girls' Soccer Championship:   Villa Joseph Marie 3-0 Northwestern Lehigh
  • 2014 PIAA AAA Boys' Soccer Championship:        Mechanicsburg 1-2 Great Valley

Both semifinals were so intense and the supporters were so loud during the games. You could see how important every single minute was to fans and players as they fought for a spot in the finals.

This picture is an example of the commitment and the sacrifice of every team. They gave their very best and they should be proud of themselves no matter what the final score was.

Now on to the Finals. They will be this Friday and Saturday at Hershey Park Stadium.

Good Luck to everybody and I hope to see you there!

PIAA Soccer at Hamburg Area High School

I (Pepe Arrabal-All Access Athlete) was watching soccer games last weekend at Hamburg Area High School, PA

  • 2014 PIAA     A     Girls' Soccer Championship:        Trinity 3-2 Christopher Dock
  • 2014 PIAA   AA    Girls' Soccer Championship:        Villa Joseph Marie 5-0 Dallas
  • 2014 PIAA AAA   Boys' Soccer Championship:        C Bucks East 0-1 Mechanicsburg

The weather was colder every minute but I was happy to see some good players I had met before, as well as find some new talent. And hot chocolate was only $1.00 so I was set for all three games.

I also met some  player's relatives (parents, brothers, sisters...even a nice grandfather who talked strategy with me during the game) and friends, too.

Thank you to the coaches, players, and supporters who made it possible for me to enjoy some soccer games!

Recruiting Tip of the Day:

In Division I, II, and III recruitment, student-athletes are allowed five official visits their senior year, so they should use them wisely , visiting those schools that they want to attend. Be aware that official visits cannot exceed forty-eight hours. Unlike unofficial visits, the college program pays for official visits. This includes the cost of transportation , lodging, and food expenses.

Wow!
